That's far too simplistic advice and won't help stutterers with a strong neurological aspect to their stuttering....
I have to agree with you, I feel like I stutter more when I think about it than when I don't, and when I'm being rather fluent for a conversation then stutter, it's harder to avoid it happening again ...
