A bit of waffle about one of my theory's on stuttering Perhaps we just learned that to speak wrong. Stuttering seems to be a phase of learning to speak for all people, maybe stutterers try too hard to not stutter and as a result of the anxiety and effort they continue to not speak fluently. As this goes on the pathways for stuttering strengthen year after year and maybe that's why adult stuttering is soo much harder to get rid of compared to childhood stuttering, because the pathways for stuttering have been strengthened meanwhile the pathways for fluent speech haven't been developed at all. Maybe the way to fix stuttering is to stutter as little as possible and speak fluently as much as possible, for example reading a book out loud as most stutterers can speak fluently when alone. Maybe if you do that for an hour a day for a year whilst trying to limit stuttering and the thoughts of stuttering in your daily life then you will let the stuttering pathways in your brain dissipate and your fluent pathways will become the standard
