I don’t think it’s that. There are not many stutterers that most people interact with on a day to day. As a result, the pauses, blocking, and repetitions create space in a conversation that people are not used to. The person listening doesn’t know what to do during that time as they have no prior experience with it. I wish people were more aware and self conscious enough to realize this, but most people are in their own world and see little outside their own bubble of reality. So, it then becomes our responsibility to educate if we want to see change with the people we interact with. I’m no longer a stutterer. I grew out of it years ago, but a close family member struggles with it.
