I genuinely believe that it’s is curable I genuinely believe that stuttering is curable. The only people I know who have claimed to cure their stutter are Ruth Mead, the author of "Speech is a River," and John Harrison, the author of "Redefining Stuttering." I am sure there are thousands, if not more, of successful stories that haven't been shared and we don't know about. Ruth Mead wrote that her recovery was very similar to John Harrison's approach before she knew him and read his book. Both were severe stutterers who ignored traditional speech mechanics and fluency shaping techniques. Instead, they focused on the psychological and emotional aspects of the problem. It was like self-administered therapy, and the result was the same: full recovery, as if they had never stuttered before. I've also come across many stories on this subreddit and other places online of people claiming they were able to cure their stutter with the most random methods you can imagine. But they all have one thing in common: changing their beliefs or being forced to change their lifestyle, after which their stuttering magically disappeared. I also see that the way neurologists and speech therapists are approaching this problem isn’t taking us anywhere but i remain hopeful! I am a severe stutterer myself. I can't get a single word out in English it literally takes me 30 seconds to say any word, and I have the worst secondary behaviors. However, I have hope. Since I am able to speak fluently in my first language, there must be something underlying that can be fixed by exploring myself more and changing my beliefs about speaking and expressing myself altogether.
