Where did you read this, if you don't mind me asking? :) Of course it's alright for you to substitute. We need to communicate, and if we can't, we might as well try something else. But as others have mentioned ITT, it's not entirely unproblematic. It's not a sure-fire way of achieving successful communication either. Have you tried seeing a speech therapist to help you with those difficult cases?
