My Mom used to scream at me "Quit STUTTERING!!!!! Good god" all the time. I remember it perfectly. She would not accept it period even though her husband and her father both stuttered (not bad though). My Dad has been out of the picture since I was 4 so I have no idea. He definitely would be more accepting because he went through it.
