Adult onset stuttering & alcoholism Hey, y’all. New to posting on here. I developed a stutter a few years ago at the age of 28 while I was in the late stages of my battle with alcohol addiction. The stutter started one morning when I woke up in alcohol withdrawal (body tremors, massive anxiety, ect). It would always clear up after I’d detox but one time around my first long stint of sobriety it just didn’t go away. It was pretty minimal at first, but over the following months got worse, and worse. I have had days, or weeks where it vanishes almost completely, but always seems to come back with no obvious triggers. It started as a few blocks, but now has morphed into me slurring a vowel, or letter half way through the word I’m trying to say, and a few instances of repetition of a letter at the beginning of the word. Other than one time I woke up with a scraped up face I have no recollection of an incident of possible head trauma that could be connected (the first time it’d happened but again went away after I detoxed). I have no other neurological, or physical symptoms other than panic attacks that started at the same time. I did start to experience migraines around the time this started that continue to this day. Thought I should also mention I have no family history of stuttering Can anyone point me in the direction of some answers? My family doctor, and a neurologist I’ve spoken to have told me it’s probably anxiety related. My SLP has told me it’s probably anxiety related, but isn’t sure. Says it’s a really unusual case in her experience. Since it’s been 3 years would it be too late for an MRI (I had a CT scan that came back clean but have heard those aren’t as reliable)? Any info, or recommendations are greatly appreciated. The most frustrating part of this whole experience has been not being able to find answers
