Has anyone else who's been under general anaesthesia had the experience of complete fluency in the 10-15 minutes after awaking from it? I had a procedure done a few weeks ago for which I was put under general anaesthesia. When I woke from it, I was super groggy, as most patients usually are. But I was conscious enough to be able to communicate with the staff looking after me. After getting out my first 3-4 sentences, I suddenly had the realization that I wasn't stuttering at all. I felt like I was going to eventually stutter at some point, but the stutter never came! It just wasn't there at all - even though my fear of it was - and yet I never stuttered. It hit me that the after-effects of the GA were probably suppressing my stutter, and so I launched into conversation every opportunity I got lol. It was *blissful*. This lasted only about ~15-20 minutes tops, and after that my stutter returned. This felt very different from the state of grogginess right after waking up from sleep, which usually doesn't induce anywhere near the kind of perfect fluency I had after GA. Can't help but wonder whether this is a clue to the root cause of stuttering. It's like the part(s) of my brain responsible for my stutter probably hadn't fully come back online.
