Yes, it makes everything so much worse and more embarrassing. I tense up and close my eyes involuntarily and my mouth contorts, plus I have a bad habit of ducking my head a little bit when I'm trying to get a sound out. It really feels like it helps and it's very hard to stop, even though I've been working on trying to. I've been practicing trying to do less obvious/awkward movements instead, when I'm aware of it, like pressing my fingers together. Those secondary movements are exhausting and make me look so stupid.
