I struggled a lot with public speaking in school. To combat this, anytime a new teacher called on me, id quickly explain I have a stutter, and it’d be more of a chore to have me read than another classmate. If they’d insist I read, I’d take my time stuttering over words (more often than not stuttering WAYYY more than I usually did). I’d finish the page after a good amount of stuttering and just look up at the teacher and ask if they’d like me to continue. Most would say that’s ok and choose someone else. No one ever made fun of me, but I guess that comes with confidence and the ability to make others laugh. When I could tease myself lightheartedly about my stutter, especially in front of the class/teacher, I wouldn’t have any problems. Many people only laugh and snicker because it’s an awkward situation to be. Throw in some humor, keep a smile on your face, and most of all, RELAX. When you get all clamy and flustered it only makes it worse for you.
