If it's gotten worse, get yourself to a speech therapist. There might be some techniques that'll help you. :) But yeah, a common avoidance tactic is simply not speaking. That's not a very nice feeling, though. The point would rather be to get to a place where we can talk when we want, even if it might come out different than what we intended. (But speech never comes out exactly as intended anyway, so it's not like we're supposed to have some kind of perfect control.)
