I do pause sometimes before saying a word I am going to stutter on, and I repeat it over and over in my head and when I'm confident I can say it without stuttering I say it, and it comes out just fine. Sometimes it doesn't though, because the fear is just too great. During this pause I just pretend I am preoccupied with something else. Example if I am ordering a drink at the bar: "Could I please have two..." then I look at the bottles over and over as if I am deciding what I want, but in the meantime I know exactly what I want, I just have to build up the courage to say it without stuttering. It's interesting how people come up with their own ways of dealing with it. Definitely making certain consonant sounds as you mentioned could work, so I'll give it a try. Thanks!
