Hello I find your story to be very interesting and something I have always wondered about. I love your positive attitude towards it. A quote I heard one time “the stutter does not begin in the child’s mouth; but the mother’s ear” An interesting and horrible study was performed on orphans in the 50’s, it’s been dubbed the Monster Project. It was actually turned into a movie. Basically they took 22 orphans and divided them into two groups. (Both groups had stutters before the experiment) one group was praised for its fluency and the children’s fluency as a whole improved greatly, even the stutters. The second group was constantly berated and insulted. Non-stutters started to stutter and the groups fluency went down significantly . The children that started to stutter in the project , stuttered for the rest of their lives. A truly horrible experiment. Maybe it’s not genetics at all, maybe it’s something that is “taught” when we are children? What tactics do you use to improve your fluency? I will tap my foot for each word to keep me from going too fast. Or I will tap each syllable from a finger tap my thumb. I’m now on a lot of psych meds, and my stuttering has gone away almost completely. There does exists a device that is supposed to help stuttering called the Speech Easy. You wear it like a hearing aide. It plays your voice back at a slight delay and a higher frequency and that improves fluency. It costs around 5k. I personally found it to be effective at first but over time my brain adapted to it and it stopped being as effective. I wish you the best , I’m an open book feel free to ask me any questions anyone may have.
