Best book on Stuttering! Book Title Understanding and Controlling Stuttering A Comprehensive New Approach Based on the Valsalva Hypothesis by William D. Parry This is the best book I have read on stuttering which hits the nail squarely on the head and goes right to the heart of the matter. The valsalva therapy explained in the book is aimed at releasing your inherent ability to speak, and the valsalva mechanism is systematically shown to be the culprit which flicks a switch in your brain, changing the 'motor program' for phonation to effort. As a result, this makes speech impossible, and the stuttering behaviours we see are actually only responses to the block. This book zones in on this block - working directly on the root cause rather than the symptoms. Detailing exactly what you need to do - physically, mentally and psychologically, in order to release this block. Watch out for key concepts. Stutterers - you will discover that there are no 'problem sounds'! Once you have this mechanism under control, your larynx is free to phonate and your speech mechanism is released. Blocking becomes physically impossible. The way this works in practice is astounding.
