Stuttering does prevent me from showing people the real me, and it does so in two ways. First, is the obvious difficulty I have expressing myself through speech. Second, and far more importantly, is the way stuttering has created incredible shyness and introversion in me. The real me is an entertainer who loves to be the centre of attention. I love to tell stories, and make others laugh. This is the person who I used to become anytime I was drunk, and my inhibitions were gone. I quit drinking eleven years ago, and haven’t seen the real me since. I prioritize my sobriety over being who I truly am inside, so I doubt the world will ever see that guy again… Which sucks, because he’s a lot of fun, and people really love him.
