French is my native language. I speak better english than dutch. I love english and i think i stuttered way less in english than french. To me english is a bit "closer to music", the sounds are sweet and longer than french. I did the "Tomatis method" for years to improve my speech when i was a teenager. To explain quickly, the ears can shut down some specific frequencies. It's a kind of protection mechanism. It can be linked to traumas as explained here : https://www.ptsduk.org/how-people-with-ptsd-can-develop-hearing-sound-difficulties/7/ According to Tomatis, the way we hear and the way we speak is very linked together. So the Tomatis method is to listen to filtered sounds, filtered the same way as if we were hearing it like babies in our mother's belly. This way, our ears are re-opening to these frequencies. And they way we speak gets better and better. I was a very severe stutterer starting from 4 y.o (with wierd moves etc) and now i speak very fluently. People can't see i was a stutterer. Very rarely i still have little blocks on some words like "bonjour", "au revoir", or sometimes to say my name maybe. I spent a big part of my life to hide it, including to hide my past to myself . I still feel like a hidden stutterer. Maybe the reason why i spoke english so much better when i was a severe stutterer, is because it's different frequencies. Or maybe it's just the flow. I don't know, what is your opinion ? 🙂
