Can you clarify about the aphasia. Was that July 3rd, or was there a previous event? Which doctors have you seen regarding this? I would definitely push your neurologist to do more. I have a wealth of experience with specialists (not related to stuttering), and not all doctors are equal. Are you working with doctors in major metro areas, or are you in smaller / rural area? The best specialists are always in major markets. If your neurologist is baffled, ask them to refer you to a top specialist in the field. Are you being 100% honest with your doctors? People sometimes conceal embarrassing or illegal things from their doctor. Doing so only hurts the patient. Talk to your senior family members. Sometimes family doesn't mention history unless you prompt them with specifics. Getting a proper diagnosis can be difficult. Sometimes impossible. But as you're only a week in on this, you should absolutely be working towards an explanation / diagnosis. If the doctor has punted the ball to speech therapy, you've not seen the right doctor yet. Don't misunderstand... I always advocate for speech therapy for stutterers. But your sudden onset strikes me as a medical issue. I'm no doctor. Take copious notes. Record your meetings and calls with your doctors.
