I totally feel you. What I’ve found is engaging in situations like these are what makes me more confident in my speech overall, as painful and nerve racking as they can be. A big part of it is controlling your thoughts. I recommend mediation for that. One of my best friends asked me to commence his wedding. I knew I couldn’t say no because of my “stutter”. I was so nervous that I’d mess up their whole wedding in the days leading up to it. It went great and I couldn’t be happier that I stuck it out. I’m happy that you still gave the speech!! I think it’ll make you more confident because of it.
