In my opinion just keeping a level/straight face is the most helpful thing when you're speaking with a stutterer who's in the middle of blocking like crazy on a word or sentence. Personally I already feel pretty self-conscious just getting stuck on a word or sound, so for me to have to deal with that *and* worry about the look of concern/grin/frown/whatever on your face just makes it even worse. Just do nothing and be patient, and at the most react appropriately to what I'm saying, not the fact that I look like I'm in the middle of having a rapid series of vicious facial tics/seizures. One time as a kid I almost had an ambulance called on me at our local Kroger. The store employee I had flagged down to ask for directions legitimately thought I was having a heart attack (at the tender age of like...thirteen or something!). Turns out it was just me, a customer, asking where the canned milk (or whatever) was and blocking bad. Absolutely mortifying! And a pet peeve of mine is when someone tries to finish my words or sentences for me when I'm in the middle of a bad block. Hell, my ornery-ass will change what I'm trying to say *completely out of spite* just so the person that's trying to auto-complete my words for me is still wrong. Oh you thought I was looking for the bathroom? Joke's on you, I was actually looking for the broom closet. **BOOM**. Eat it. But yeah, just be patient and do nothing. Thank you for asking!
