That is really where I am at right now. My first experience with intensive therapy made me believe that speech therapy/fluency skills was the key and all I need to achieve fluency. That isn’t the case. Those speech habits and secondary behaviours play a huge part in confidence, mental well being, and the ability to become more fluent even with a stutter. I am actually scheduled to see a neurologist in the next few weeks as well - I want to see which muscles are overactive. When it comes to Botox, I am grateful to be in a country where it won’t cost thousands of dollars for treatment. The area I am interested in is the neck and jaw area. My tics are more tense jaw and rocking my head back and forth during disfluency. Why Botox? I understand that it is meant to freeze the muscles that are overactive, which causes the tics, and the injection lasts for about 3 months - during this time it’s possible that the tics will go away. In your case, the lip area - I would be really self conscious about droopiness, so that possibility would definitely make me think twice. I am definitely going to take your advice about practicing with a mirror in order to see my reflection. It will help to become more aware of what really is happening during disfluencies. Definitely overwhelming to deal with everyday, but can’t lose faith and call it quits! I don’t want to keep holding back. Wish you all the best :) u/Bringonthetrolls
