Per professionals w training in dysfluency who have helped themselves and many many others, you are asking the right question! You have to add these other steps in to move past the blocks. We block bc we are so afraid to let ppl hear our repetitions, so we fight to force words out (the forcing IS the block). Y 1. Speak w voluntary repetitions (either in a mirror, callling a store, and in person when ready). 2. Make eye contact (avoiding it signals shame to your brain, making it worse) 3. Begin slowly and on an exhale (rushing also signals to your brain “get this terrible thing over with. Also, most ppl talk on exhales, not inhales) 4. Enunciate. (Same reason as above). It’s absolutely possible to have interesting tone, timing, cadence. No need to sound robotic)
