It's very difficult, because you go on a first date and you can't form a connection because first dates are difficult and set up for people who are able to have comfortable and easy back and forth. What I have to do is try and form that connection before asking them out on a date. Essentially, show them who I am and win them over before we get to the date, because if I have to be charming and funny in the date itself, it's just not going to happen. Winning them over in advance gives me the cushion and sets up a home field advantage to where the usual awkwardness doesn't land in the same way. And of course I have to tell mention my stutter before any date. Even when I tell them, they doesn't understand what it really means when someone has a severe stutter, but it gives her more context for what to expect and prepare.
