Generally speaking, stuttering is neurogenic. In other words, there is both a neurological component (motor control of speech parts) and a genetic component that contribute to stuttering. In order for speech to be “fluent,” then all components of speech must work together. This includes your brain, lips/tongue/teeth, lungs, diaphragm, and vocal folds.
