No those are learned secondary behaviors and are "bad", particularly Amanda's H insertions. They do them for the same reason any of us do any of our tricks. They worked some times and became habituated and now we try them everytime we get stuck. They're using those tricks to get to the sound in a roundabout sort of way that feels safer or less ugly or more comfortable instead of doing what would be better but scarier/riskier, going directly to the feared sound and letting yourself stutter however it comes out. However American Idol and a News Interview and two very very high pressure high feared situations and it wouldn't be appropriate for them to try and just go straight to the sound there. Firstly, they wouldn't be able to. It's too much fear and too overwhelming. Plus they don't have the skills and practice to simply let themselves move to the sound and stutter (which can be learned through **good** therapy). Secondly, with that much tension (due to the high profile scary situation) and such high stakes, it's probably not the right situation to work on getting on the sound either.
