I’m a speech therapist, and what you’re describing, with your thoughts racing ahead and getting tangled in speech, is something I hear a lot. One thing that can help is shifting focus externally instead of trying to manage your words internally — like shift your attention to the other person’s face or voice. Also, taking a light breath before speaking can slow the rush without making you feel distracted. And shorter, simpler responses are okay, even if they feel less polished. The key is communication, not perfection.
