I feel your pain lol. It still happens to me when I pick up phone calls. Say something like “thank you for calling blah blah” most likely they will answer if not then say “how can I help?” Also, maybe you stutter hard because your boss was looking at you. I remember when they gave me the phone to pick up while 2 of them was staring at me. Couldn’t say a single word 😂😂
