I think your statement “what you resist persists” gets at the idea that stuttering is an approach-avoidance conflict. The more you try to resist stuttering the worse it is: for example trying to give a presentation. But when you don’t care—say talking to yourself or your dog—you’re not likely to stutter. Bottom line is I think you stopped trying not to stutter—you were at a calmer happier place in your life and it happened without really trying?
