50y/o PWS, disabled combat veteran, with PhD… Been locked out of full-time employment virtually my entire professional life. Finally, started my own business. Though employers and HR will never ever claim your speech as a means to discount you… They will often use other organizational euphemisms to skirt the law… They will say things in the hiring process like “needs excellent communication skills.” Then, when the time comes to hire, you get ghosted. Then the burden for proving discrimination is on you and your (often expensive) lawyers. This society and economy has never been a place for disabilities… Disabilities make the able feel uncomfortable and they don’t like that. For example, I have zero problem with my stutter… But those around me… They see it as an impossible obstacle for daily living and professional life. They want me “cured” more than I do.
