“I did X without stuttering!” I don’t think “doing X without stuttering “ should be applauded as an achievement. It reinforces the idea that stuttering is inherently bad and success = avoiding it. All this does is encourage unhealthy behaviour like rewording sentences and makes us feel significantly worse when we do inevitably end up stuttering. I think a better approach is to encourage people to do the *opposite* - openly stutter in situations that scare them *without* feeling shame or guilt. We shouldn’t be ashamed or hide who we are for the convenience of others.
