I can talk relatively fluidly most of the time, but tend to stutter really bad when I am deprived of sleep, have to drink large amounts of coffee, when I’m under emotional stress or when I am drunk. Last week I went to a dinner with a bunch of girls, like ten, and I only knew two of them, who weren’t even in seats close to mine and I was hanging out with girls I had never met before. I told them straight up that I had slept like shit the night before and I would be stuttering all dinner. They just were like “I get that”, “oh, that’s rough” or whatever, but nobody was mean, rude or anything like that. A couple of times I stuttered like really bad, but they just paid attention closer, asked me to repeat myself a few times when what I said was impossible to understand lol… but it was alright. They cared more about what I had to say than how I said it, it was a nice group of people to be around and I’m already excited about our next gathering. Sometimes it’s valid to just give people a heads up, more often times than not they’ll understand and it will be fine.
