In my teens, it wasn't very helpful. But that was on me. I didn't put in the work. When I went back in my mid 20's, it was incredibly helpful. Same therapist. Same program. The difference was me. Putting in the work. Working at it every day. It was a relearning of how to speak. Learning to speak without disfluency. And, most importantly, not using these new skills until I was ready. When I was finally allowed to use my fluency outside of the office, I was ready. An analogy I like to make is that of a piano recital. You don't put a student in a recital in front of others until they're ready. Until they can play fluently. Once they are confident in their fluency, then they are ready to use that skill in public.
