It depends on the therapist/practice, my speech therapist is the reason I am who I am today and I’m very glad I did it. The techniques they gave me to use when I stuttered worked for the most part but as I got older they stopped working and I have my own ways of getting past a little of my stutter now. I’d recommend speech therapy for anyone who stutters cause they show you techniques (like mine showed me) on how to not stutter as much when facing a stutter. Things such when hitting a block, taking a second, and restarting the sentence, when the first letter of a word is difficult for you, start a long breath and before you say the word, add the letter “H” to the beginning of the word. For instance my word is eight, or anything with “sc” or “sk”. Say the word as such “hhhhhhhscooter”, that REALLY improves my speech when I use it, it really works too. Having a “safe word” for when you’re stuttering really bad and speak fast like me a lot of times is also something helpful. If your friends, significant other or parents are with you, find a word and tell them “hey if I start stuttering really bad you can use (insert word) and it’ll let me know to slow my speech so that I don’t stutter as badly.” It might seem embarrassing but it’ll really help in the long run. Hope if anyone uses these that they work.
