Stuttering in particular situations? Hello there, I'm a 24 old male, living in Turkey, stuttering since 5 years old. Can't really remember how it's started, but my parents always say (or claim) that it's started because I was (somehow) bullied by other kids in the neighborhood. For the next two years, my parents took me to lots of specialists (psychologists, neurologists, psychiatrists and so on), but there was nothing found wrong with me, nor any cure for the problem. After that my life kept on like this (between ages): * 5 to 12: Brute-forced the speaking, tried to be in the center of attention. It was no good, I was getting silent day by day. * 13 to 17: Oh boy puberty :( Avoided social interactions when I could. Stayed total silent unless I had to talk. Became a nerd, shifted my focus to science, engineering, especially computers. * 17 to 18: Last year of my high school, preparing for national university exams. Somehow I started "wanting to talk". I tried to initiate lots of dialogs with my friends even though kept on stuttering. I gained lots of confidence. * 18 and going: Started university, computer engineering. I was like "F*ck it! I'll talk no matter what happens!" and trying to get in the center of attention. This time it worked, I got social. Got my girlfriend, 5 years of rock-solid relationship ongoing. Finished university, working as a software engineer. Giving free trainings in public events. The reason I'm telling these details is that, my stuttering issue is somehow weird: * I'm not stuttering "even a single word", when I'm talking to someone "I'm used to". Family, girlfriend, close friends, colleagues ... * I'm not stuttering when I'm singing or impersonating. Also not stuttering while speaking in foreign languages. * I'm stuttering a lot when I had to initiate a dialog with someone I don't know or I'm not used to. * But mostly I'm stuttering when I had to talk to someone "intimidating". Even though he/she is or turns out to be a nice person. * My heart rate hits 130-140 bpm in about 30 seconds, while I'm stuttering. When it continues, my face basically becomes red, I feel like I'm about to explode. * After a while in dialog, stuttering randomly disappears and I start talking fluently. I saw several audiologists and psychologists in a year, but none of them found out the source of the problem. Any ideas or have you ever seen these patterns in someone?
