Hi friend! I'm so sorry to read that you're having such difficulty speaking, and such difficulty speaking ABOUT speaking. While your situation is definitely treatable, it sounds like you're really depressed about it. I read that you haven't disclosed your feelings to your parents or friends. I think it would be really beneficial to see a counselor or someone to address the EMOTIONAL aspect of what you're going through. I see that you're a student, so you should absolutely have a counselor at your school or university that is free or at very very low cost. Disclose to someone, anyone, who can be an advocate for you so that you aren't facing this alone. Addressing your speech is something you CAN do, but it seems that you're a bit overwhelmed in even starting the process. So find someone who can help you out and who you feel comfortable talking to. (Hell, if you want to start PMing me, I'd love to hear you out! You got this!) Secondly, shame shame SHAME on the physiotherapist who claimed to also do speech therapy. I work in speech therapy, near and around the mouth, but I would never claim to be a dentist, occupational therapist, or physical therapist. We all tend to cross into each other's realm, but a true professional should never assume the role of another profession. SHAME on that man. He did you a disservice. Third, what seems to me is that you may be a covert stutterer and it may be a result of general fatigue in your jaw muscles. However, as you are a student (I'm guessing high school...??) there are absolutely resources for you a no or very low cost. But, you gotta find them and advocate for them. Which brings me back to my first point, find an advocate. All in all, this is definitely treatable! No, it won't be overnight. But I think the first step you should make is disclosing to a parent or counselor. Find someone that can get on board in getting some speech therapy. Talk about how you're feeling. Make sure someone is hearing what you have to say. Best of luck, and please PM me if you need resources!!
