Hello, long term stutterer here. Also of course your question isn't stupid, I think it's very sweet that you care enough to ask. I guess my first question is your age. When I and most stutterers were younger, our stutter tends to be the worse between 16-25ish. Cruelly, this also tends to be the age that people are the most judgemental and the quickest to make fun of you openly. So when I was in school, I can absolutely say that most people would just not listen when I would start stuttering. My then-girlfriend and a few friends were really the only ones who would listen, and I spent the entire freshman year of highschool without any friends before I met them. This absolutely was incredibly isolating. At my age though, it really isn't a problem anymore though.
