SLP who Stutters I became interested in becoming a speech language pathologist because of my own stutter. My stuttering consists of mostly blocking & struggling behaviors (looking away, blinking, tending body). I believe my stutter is neurogenic because I have no family history of it and I have a brain abnormality called periventricular grey matter heterotopia (mine in particular is in the caudate nucleus of the right hemisphere) from premature birth. I also have epilepsy. I was taking Trileptal for 9 years and developed what I believe to be dysarthria. I'm currently taking Keppra & Lamictal. While I was only on Keppra, my stutter went away completely. However, I had to add the Lamictal due to the Keppra not controlling my seizures. The Lamictal made my stutter worse than ever before. It's difficult for me to determine whether these meds are causing me to relapse into stuttering or whether they're causing dysarthria.
