>why does CBT for anxiety not improve stuttering? " why does CBT for anxiety not improve stuttering?" \--> the short answer is because in CBT you ignore/distract yourself from/fade the 'negative thought' essentially you make the negative thought unsatisfying, unneeded, less visible, more difficult and the positive thought satisfying, needed, visible and easier. Both the therapist and the client don't use 'I look for a letter to stutter on' as a negative thought which is important because we always stutter because of a stutter expectation before we stutter. \- the long answer is that everyone believes that there is no cure for stuttering so one should focus on everything except curing stutter. This belief is unquestioned, undoubted, taboo and IF ANYONE should approach this then CBT will simply refer you to a stutter therapy for this issue. And stutter therapy will refer you back to the psychologist, no one will approach this. If you use cue, craving, response, and reward in CBT therapy then you will not (try/learn to) remove the stutter expectation and the justification of it (which is the perceived stresses). 1. What is your opinion? 2. If CBT, stutter therapy or psychologists won't approach the negative thought 'I look for a letter to stutter on', then who can help you deal with this thought? 3. If no one, then only you yourself can do it. So how can we do it ourselves step by step? I'm very interested to hear your idea.
