Being 16 and having a stutter is probably going to be one of the hardest periods of your life. High school was the worst for me but I got through it. You are brave and strong, just not in the way you think. Do you have a guidance teacher? We had a teacher that got assigned to be our somewhat parent/guardian through school. Tell them that you’re finding it hard to deal with your stutter and want to be excluded from being picked to read out loud. You shouldn’t need to feel constant dread during classes. Speak to your parents or even write them a note explaining what’s happening. It might be embarrassing to you but your parents aren’t going to care. If anything, they will be someone to vent to. I’m 22M and I felt the same through school to the point I stopped engaging and pretended I didn’t do homework and stuff. I ended up fucking up all my grades. All because of my stutter. - that’s what I thought at the time. In reality, I failed because I didnt want to accept my stutter. Accept that you’ve got a stutter and life gets better. High school is a tricky time to do this but once you do, you’ll notice yourself improving. My advice is - talk to teachers. Write out what you want beforehand so you don’t forgot stuff in the heat of a stutter. Talk to your parents. Slow down and just remember that you’ve only got like 2 years? Of school left. Life does gets better.
