No psychological aspect to the therapy I received. At least not directly. I wasn't allowed to use what I learned until a certain milestone. I think sustained success in a controlled environment certainly had a positive effect psychologically. The only long lasting effect (other than fluency), was that I lost some of the range of intonation. The therapy used monotone speaking as part of the rebuilding process. And while monotone speech wasn't part of the end result, my normal range of intonation is narrower compared to most people.
