Stuttering doesn’t necessarily mean repeating the same sounds like “S s stuttering”. I have a severe stutter and mostly experience blocks, and in most cases, I can’t even release the first sound, just awkward silence, like someone glued my vocal cords or my lips together. And what makes it weirder is that I consciously know what I am supposed to do to get the word out, like moving my tongue or dropping my jaw, but I can’t do that.It feels like our subconscious mind gets involved when the stress level reaches a certain threshold, so this part of the brain decides to censor us and suppress our attempts to speak in order to protect us from being hurt by others and avoid this inevitable trauma by shutting us up completely.
