Former severe stutterer, now mostly covert, and I've been in retail for 19 years, and eventually moved into management. It was pretty tough for me at first, but once I felt comfortable in the role, my stutter subsided; I felt like I had home court advantage. My coworkers didn't care about my stutter, and when customers made it a thing, my coworkers had my back. I felt more support there than I had anywhere. It's tough to start, I know, in fact it's nearly impossible, but eventually I felt comfortable with the job so my stutter became less of a problem.
