I don't think that there is enough money or financial incentives put into stuttering research. I obviously don't know but if we compare the charity marketing of other medical or scientific problems, such as cancer, suicide, depression or obesity. All of these are pretty heavily "advertised". There are tons charities for their research, many people are aware that these issues exist. Hence there is probably more research. However, stuttering doesn't seems to have the same level of financial support, hence maybe limiting the research. Maybe by now we would've had some sort of "cure" for it if scientists took it seriously with enough compensation. (P.S. a little rant) As a stutterer I don't always like to talk about. It doesn't always bother me because I can speak but sometimes I can't. As I see it, stuttering is a slippery thing to classify or generalise to other people who do not stutter. It is there and not at the same time. Sometimes I talk like I have never stuttered, sometimes I don't speak at all. Most of the time it literally seems debilitating but sometimes it doesn't. I don't know if it can be considered a disability or not. Because I sometimes see it as one but sometimes I don't.
