Right, but “learning to speak without stuttering” is not the goal…or shouldn’t be. For most people who stutter (especially if they are well into their late teen to adult years) will always have to deal with having a stutter. The current research shows that 1. There is no cure or sure fire treatment for stuttering. And 2. Research shows that in adults who stutter, there are subtle neurological differences in brain activity during speech than in a person who doesn’t stutter. So with that said, people who stutter should learn to be at peace with having a stutter, and shift their mind from “oh I need to do whatever I can to be fluent and not stutter” to “oh well if I stutter ordering pizza, then so be it” and NOT let having a stutter hold us back from living a full filled life. So I go to the support groups, not to try and learn how to “not stutter” but to connect with people who know what I mean when I say “guys when I went to chick fil a the girl gave me that look”. It’s no different than going to game night with ur friends.
