ADHD Medication and Stuttering To start with some context, I've had a stutter for my entire life, and this past spring I was diagnosed with ADHD. I was prescribed Adderall XR, which has definitely somewhat helped on the ADHD front. However, I started to do some more research today, since there is apparently growing evidence that stuttering could be linked to dopamine hyperactivity in the brain. Obviously, there are multiple hypotheses/theories for the cause of stuttering, but this specific hypothesis stuck out due to some success with the Ecopipam clinical trials. I also started to see how stimulants (like Adderall) could cause an increase in stuttering, which to me supports the dopamine hyperactivity hypothesis (since many ADHD medications cause an increase in dopamine in the brain). I'm not sure if my stuttering has gotten significantly worse since I started using medication, but I was wondering if anyone else has had experiences with both stuttering/ADHD and would be willing to share! I also want to see if anyone else has looked into this possible relationship between ADHD and stuttering and what your opinion is about the subject.
