It's easy to get stuck and forget to breathe, but with no air there is no sound. If you get stuck, take a second, take a deep breath and try again. If people are assholes about it, well...people are just assholes sometimes. Good luck. Employers can't not hire you because of your stutter unless you have a job that it would hinder...like a 911 dispatcher or something. But I get it, I put off making certain phone calls for weeks....
