Couple of remarks here, in the interest of contributing to the perspective sharing: - >**We stopped going** and well, I continued stuttering. I'm now 28 years old. Of course you continued. That's the most likely situation for a kid who stutters. Some outgrow it, but it's not certain why. But... why on earth didn't you seek out speech therapy again during those *22 years*? This seems rather misunderstood. - >I can **fool** someone [...] into thinking I **don't have any speech impediment** Why? Just... why? Why do you want to fool anyone? Why would you want to spend all this energy and effort just to appear as a version of yourself that's not showing all of you? This sounds downright unhealthy, if you ask me. A stutter is nothing you need to hide! What you're doing is "evasion", and that's exhausting for any stutterer. Sure, you can have tricks up your sleeve for when you need to express something very particular (which, by the way, speech therapy has the tools for), but that's not done to *hide* anything. Please don't think you have to do that in general. - >I clearly haven't found a way to cure my stutter We're not looking for *cures*. We're looking for ways to *manage our stutter*. :) If the stutter goes away in the process, that's just an added bonus. But it's not the explicit goal.   --- MOVED COMMENTS ---   *^((Disclaimer: Angry remark incoming.)^)* >Porn and masturbation. I'm not suggesting you mutilate yourself or block all adult websites, but this, anecdotally has helped me. Get that "nofap" shit out of here. Stay away from pseudoscientific measures. Don't spread misinformation. You risk hurting other people (and yourself, of course).   ---   Vitamins and minerals don't "cure" your stutter, but if you have a micronutrient deficit, and this in turn causes your overall speech performance to worsen, sure, get that sorted out. But don't self-medicate. Work with medical professionals to find out what may or may not be up with you. And again, consult a speech therapist. I can't stress this enough. I can see from the second to last paragraph that you _want_ techniques to use. It's just that without proper analysis, you can't be sure that those methods are right for you. What I'm saying is, things can get better. You're definitely not alone (as you say), but this implies that there are others out there who you can benefit from seeking out. Professionals!...   ---   Alright, so three amendments there. • Why haven't you gone to see a speech therapist on your own? It's not like any window has closed. If you have problems with something, see a professional. You have problems with speech, so see a speech therapist. Simple as that. :) • It's not just that I "feel" like there's no reason to hide a stutter. It's that it's an unhealthy approach. It makes the stutterer twist and turn in order to avoid being "found out". In very general terms, this is unhealthy for _anyone_. Stutterers are no different there. Set up your life in a way that isn't counterconducive to your health! • You have to stop talking about nofap. Pseudoscience does not belong in here (or anywhere, for that matter). The conclusions you've arrived at are obviously marred by not being in a scientific setting, so you can't use it for anything. It's not about personal choice or belief or whatever - it's about nofap being bogus and nobody should spread it around. So don't. Be healthy!   ---   Oh... no, that was a very bad idea. The reaction to "don't share" shouldn't be _to share_. We don't need proselytizing in here. We just need a community for stutterers and real information.
