Well, quite frankly, no one is for sure what the cause is. The best explanation I heard was that some people think that its caused by signals in certain parts of the brain getting tangled with each other, but that hypothesis, like the others that came before it, seems to have very little to back it up. Its incredibly hard to develop medicine for something when you aren't even sure what the cause is.
