Have you spoken to the senior doctors? Have you got a mentor at the hospital? There are two separate things to look at here. The first is your ability to do medical stuff. If your a 6th year student you are probably pretty kick ass right? The second is your ability to talk about your findings. This is where I would have thought other doctors could advise? Have you had any therapy? I’m a software engineer. I started as self employed only working remotely. This mainly because I was uncomfortable talking. Eventually I bit the bullet and got a job in a company. Found talking in stand ups very difficult and was fairly difficult. My technical ability showed through just fine. I naturally grew into the roll and now manage the development team. I still stutter, some days badly.. I still get the job done. I thought in medicine there were lots of fields you could specialise in. Perhaps different specialities require different conversations and you may find some comfort in a specific field. That said I would caution against ‘hiding’. There must be strategies to deal with this. Perhaps you use diagrams to help explain a condition. Perhaps you have a print off to support what you are saying. I would hope you would find confidence with experience. You won’t be the first doctor to stutter.
