As a stutterer myself, I’ve noticed how fluent people converse in day to day life. I’m very surprised to know that they will have frequent pauses and even filler words. This is quite evident when a teacher calls on them to answer a question they don’t know the answer to. They will say ‘um’ to fill the silence caused by their long blocks. For them, it’s thinking. For us, it’s stuttering. Saying ‘like’ is something fluent people say all the time, so don’t worry about it. If it helps you talk, by all means, use it!
