Leaving my comfort zone Hey everybody, I just applied for a job as a waiter, and I'm pretty scared. I have my interview this week, and I'm typically pretty good at prolonged one-on-one interaction, but I always stutter when people ask me for specific information (e.g. my name, where I go to school, what time it is, etc). I also stutter significantly more when speaking to older people or people whose English isn't great (basically any time I have to consciously think about making my speech easier to understand). One of the main reasons I applied for this job was to take me out of my comfort zone, and I'm sure that after some initial discomfort, I'll be fine. That being said, does anyone else stutter almost exclusively when asked for specific information? Do you have any tips? I'm extremely fluent most of the time, and people hardly ever notice my stutter, but sometimes it acts up and is disastrous (especially when I'm nervous/tired/stressed, can take 20-30 seconds to say my name). My stutter is exclusively a block stutter - lots of ums, ahs, and repeating phrases. I hardly ever talk about my stutter with friends because they can't notice it - even though it causes me a ton of anxiety. Thanks for reading my ramble, would love to hear if anybody has had similar experiences!
